Off Grid and Remote Solar Water Heating In the UK Solar Water heating is usually associated with a solar panels on the South Side of a traditional pitched roof. This is one of the most effective ways of collecting heat from the sun, the panels are up high and away from potential shadow and angled correctly. However, this invariably means the use of a pump in order to move the warmed water through the panels and down to the heat store - the hot water cylinder. In many countries, the roof is flat and there is not such a tradition of having stored hot water - largely a function of having a combined hot water and space heating system sharing the same boiler.
The system illustrated shows a combined hot water panel and hot water cylinder. The system is entirely self contained, needs no pump as the hottest water naturally circulates to the top of the system, the panel and hot water cylinder are carefully matched to allow for the optimum amount of hot water.
